  • Wirral Drug and Alcohol Addiction Team (DAAT) Hep C Strategy
    The National Treatment Agency’s (NTA) aspirational target is for each DAAT partnership to ensure that 100% of their previous/current injecting drug user (IDU) population to have been tested for Hepatitis C. Many DAATs across the country have struggled to achieve this target and Wirral DAAT’s performance at the end of 2007/08 is at 20%.

    This report lays out The Hepatitis C Trust’s plan for a programme of pharmacy-based testing for hepatitis b and hepatitis c. It emphasises that community pharmacies are ideally placed to deliver basic public health information as well as, with the right training and support, screening for conditions such as viral hepatitis. The Hepatitis C Trust’s Pharmacy Testing Programme is designed to increase awareness and testing for hepatitis B and C through targeted, on-demand testing for people less likely to access mainstream services.

  • Government response to the NHS Future Forum report
    Between April and June 2011, the NHS Future Forum, led by Professor Steve Field, heard the views of thousands of people – patients, professionals and members of the public. They listened to every professional group and toured every region in the country, producing a report for the Government on 13th June.   • Standards for Local Surveillance and Follow Up of Hepatitis B and C
    These standards, produced by the Health Protection Agency in 2011, recognise that the detection and clinical management of hepatitis B and C can involve a number of health professionals, creating a diversity of clinical pathways. The development of the standards has also taken into account the fact that the prevalence of both hepatitis B and C varies markedly across the country and that current systems for the surveillance and follow up of cases also vary.
