This report by HCV Action investigates the prioritisation of hepatitis C virus (HCV) infection by Health and Wellbeing Boards (HWBs) across England. The aim of the review is to compare the extent to which local authorities have considered the diagnosis and treatment of hepatitis C in their area, in order to identify the range of local commissioning and treatment practices that exist across England. Evidence was gathered from the most recent Joint Strategic Needs Assessments (JSNA) and Joint Health and Wellbeing Strategies (JHWS) available from local authorities.

Consolidated guidelines on HIV, viral hepatitis and STI prevention, diagnosis, treatment and care for key populations

The WHO Consolidated guidelines on HIV, viral hepatitis and STI prevention, diagnosis, treatment and care for key populations outline a public health response for five key populations (men who have sex with men, trans and gender diverse people, sex workers, people who inject drugs and people in prisons and other closed settings). They present and discuss new recommendations and consolidate a range of recommendations and guidance from current WHO guidelines.

Good practice case study: The Cocoon project

The Cocoon project, set up in Tayside, Scotland seeks to address the high rate of drug-related deaths in the area. The project delivers point-of-care diagnosis of HCV in needle exchange sites, while also integrating services which typically require travel to alternate NHS sites to reduce the burden of multiple visits and different providers. The result is a ‘one-stop’ holistic care bundle which seeks to address the inequity of access experienced by PWUD by increasing their engagement through services tailored to their specific needs.

With only three years to go to NHS England's 2025 elimination target, the aim of this HCV Action webinar was to share information about the latest data on hepatitis C, what we can observe about trends from what we already have, and what types of further data collection we need to fill gaps in our current knowledge and guide efforts. It included speakers from NHS England, the UK Health Security Agency, The Hepatitis C Trust, and Hep C U Later.
