This promising practice case study presents the hepatitis C pathway for prisoners at HMP Kirkham, designed to ensure access to hepatitis C screening, treatment and ongoing community and medical support in this detention setting. The pathway includes details of existing clients who should be offered testing as well as generally applicable opt-out testing standards for new receptions. Procedures for pre- and post-test discussion, reporting format, repeat testing  and referral for treatment are also discussed. The treatment pathway for HP Kirkham includes an inreach hepatitis C specialist nurse from Blackpool hospital working directly with the prison and hospital consultants.
