This article uses the example of Switzerland to look at how recent developments in hepatitis C therapy might impact upon the prevention of hepatitis C vertical (i.e. mother to baby) transmission. It finds that universal screening for hepatitis C among pregnant women should be urgently re-evaluated in the light of the new treatments which are now available.
