  • Face It: Hepatitis C Best Practice - Developing a local hepatitis C strategy
    Dr Erika Duffell, Consultant in Health Protection at Greater Manchester Health Protection Unit (HPU) led a project on behalf of the local Primary Care Trusts (PCTs) to improve services for the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of hepatitis C in Greater Manchester. A steering group produced a comprehensive needs assessment and evidence-based strategy, which convinced PCT commissioners to invest in services. So far, the programme has led to the development of outreach clinics in local drug services, the recruitment of extra medical and nursing staff to treat

  • Action Plan for the Prevention, Management and Control of Hepatitis C in Northern Ireland
    The actions set out in this report form the core of a plan to address hepatitis C in Northern Ireland for the period 2006-2008. Its aim is to achieve a reduction in the transmission of hepatitis C in Northern Ireland and to ensure that people with hepatitis C infection are identified and receive high quality, evidence-based, patient-focused treatment and care.

  • A Matter of Chance: An Audit of Hepatitis C Healthcare in England
    In February 2006, more than 18 months after the launch of the Department of Health's 2004 Action Plan for Hepatitis C setting out required actions for Primary Care Trusts (PCTs) and NHS Hospital Trusts, the All-Party Parliamentary Hepatology Group undertook a survey of PCTs and NHS Hospital Trusts in order to audit what actions they had taken to fulfil the Action Plan’s stated requirements.   • Greater Manchester Hepatitis C Strategy 2006
    This strategy for Hepatitis C in Greater Manchester aims to develop a collaborative, coordinated approach to addressing hepatitis C across Greater Manchester in line with national guidance, to propose ways of further developing and strengthening local services, and to meet the increasing need and demand for services within the population. The strategy is focused around the four key areas of prevention, testing, treatment and surveillance.

  • Hepatitis C Action Plan for England: July 2004
    The growing importance of hepatitis C as a public health issue in England was highlighted in 2002 with the publication of the Government’s Hepatitis C Strategy for England. It brought together existing initiatives to tackle hepatitis C and suggested how prevention, diagnosis and treatment could be improved. This Action Plan, which is based on best practice, serves as a broad framework for implementation of the Hepatitis C Strategy for England. It reflects ongoing work that needs to be sustained and intensified and also identifies new areas for action.
